Bonjour,

Pour info, la région de Maktau et Lake Jipe est la plus méridionale de TsavoWest, frontalière avec la Tanzanie. Il y a très très peu de dérangement... Car aucun lodge n'est en activité dans cette zone

Cattle drive in Tsavo West
Over Ten thousand (10,000) cattle were recently driven out of Tsavo West Nationalpark. The operation was conducted by KWS officer/rangers in Makindu and Southern part of Tsavo West between Jipe and Maktau
Desperate herdsmen are driving cattle into one Tsavo National park in search of scarce water and pasture threatening its famous wild animals and the habitat that brings the state much needed tourist revenue. The cattle can harm natural habitat where elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras and other wildlife roam free, and could also spread diseases. This is very destructive and is a threat to the wildlife.
During the ongoing operations KWS officers netted 73 people in Makindu.48 of whom were under age. The 25 adults were arraigned at Makindu court on 27th March 2009 whilst the under age were taken to the Rombo chief’s Office in Loitoktok District awaiting transfer to their respective homes.
In the operation in Southern part of Tsavo West between Lake Jipe and Maktau, 44 people were arrested, 12 of whom are adults and 32 juveniles. The culprits were all booked at Voi police station. It has been established that most of the herders are from Tanzania.
Kenya Wildlife Service rangers are working day and night to ensure that all the animals are driven out of the park to avoid further destruction of flora and fauna.
